WALL-LESS
The prime issue of security bothers mankind
especially
in these troubled times when terrorism is a global threat. Even on the
internet, protection against hackers and their allies is very important.
In the ancient times, important strategic centres of human civilisation
were usually walled cities. Invaders could only penetrate and overcome
such walled cities by force and/or subtility.
Num.13:28(KJV)
"Nevertheless the people
be strong that dwell in the land, and the
cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of
Anak there."
Josh. 6:1(CEV)
"Meanwhile, the people of
Jericho had been locking the gates in their
town wall because they were afraid of the Israelites. No one could go
out or come in. "
Judges 18:7,27-28(KJV)
"Then the five men
departed, and came to Laish, and saw the people that
were therein, how they dwelt careless, after the manner of the
Zidonians, quiet and secure; and there was no magistrate in the land,
that might put them to shame in any thing; and they were far from the
Zidonians, and had no business with any man."
"And they took the things
which Micah had made, and the priest which he
had, and came unto Laish, unto a people that were at quiet and secure:
and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and burnt the city with
fire."
"And there was no
deliverer, because it was far from Zidon, and they
had no business with any man; and it was in the valley that lieth by
Bethrehob. And they built a city, and dwelt therein."
Laish as portrayed in the above text is a type of a person or people
estranged from God by sin. And all have been born in sin(Psalm 51:5)
and have sinned(Rom.6:23). In sin, mankind is exposed to the
attack, destruction, and oppression of the true enemy of the human
soul(John 10:10a) called the devil. The devil who is the ultimate
embodiment of evil promises the human race prosperity and security
which are totally false .
Psalm 127:1(KJV)
"Except the LORD build the
house, they labour in vain that build it:
except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain."
All our human attempts to seek, create, and maintain prosperity and
security are in vain without God. When we are walled without God,we are
as wall-less as Laish!
Zech.1:1-5(KJV)
"I lifted up mine eyes
again, and looked, and behold a man with a
measuring line in his hand."
"Then said I, Whither
goest thou? And he said unto me, To measure
Jerusalem, to see what is the breadth thereof, and what is the length
thereof. "
"And, behold, the angel
that talked with me went forth, and another
angel went out to meet him,"
"And said unto him, Run,
speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem
shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the multitude of men and
cattle therein: "
"For I, saith the LORD,
will be unto her a wall of fire round about,
and will be the glory in the midst of her."
Jerusalem as presented in the above scriptures is a type of a person or
people who are prospered and kept by God through Jesus Christ. The city
seemed to be wall-less but it was actually walled by God with His very
person,presence and power.
Everyone born into this world is like Laish but can become like
Jerusalem by repenting from sin and coming into a personal relationship
with God by receiving Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Saviour.
God has destined us to be like Jerusalem in terms of both prosperity
and security but each of us must choose to enter into that destiny
through Jesus Christ.
True prosperity and security destined by God for mankind is based on
having a right stand with God(righteousness) through Jesus Christ His
only begotten Son(John 3:16) who died for sin.
Why settle for anything less without God when you can have God's best?!
What is God's best?
It is more than prosperity and security in this life.
God's best for us is God Himself in us,with us and for us!!!
Psalm 18:1-3(KJV)
"I will love thee, O LORD,
my strength."
"The LORD is my rock, and
my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my
strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my
salvation, and my high tower. "
"I will call upon the
LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be
saved from mine enemies."
