'And,
behold,
a
certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I
do to inherit eternal life?'
'He
said
unto
him,
What is written in the law? how readest thou?'
'And
he
answering
said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all
thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy
neighbour as thyself.'
'And
he
said
unto
him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.'
'But
he,
willing to
justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?'
'And
Jesus
answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and
fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him,
and departed, leaving him half dead.'
'And
by
chance
there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he
passed by on the other side.'
'And
likewise
a
Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by
on the other side.'
'But
a
certain
Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he
had compassion on him,'
'And
went to
him,
and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his
own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.'
'And
on
the
morrow
when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and
said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more,
when I come again, I will repay thee.'
'Which
now of
these
three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the
thieves?'
'And
he
said,
He
that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou
likewise.'
Luke 10:25-37 (King James Version)
In the road of divine
destiny,every pilgrim comes across
some
other pilgrim who has been a victim of the enemy of divine destiny(John
10:10a). But how many of us have seen but avoided such victims because
we maintain a 'religious or spiritual' gap between us and that fellow?
And how few of us ever bridge that gap to be a neighbour unto the
person that we naturally resent on religious or spiritual grounds?!
Without the compassion
and love of Christ in our hearts
it seems easier to keep the gap than to bridge it!!!
But let us not forget
our Lord Jesus who bridged the gap
between us and God so that we can be reconciled back to God through
himself offered as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins!!!
Can we not sense the
warmth of His love within our hearts
towards the fallen pilgrim we have just seen?!
And can't we perceive
the breeze of His Spirit fanning
the
embers into a blazing fire of compassion towards the person?
Then let us stop,cross
over the gap and be an outreach of
God's
unconditional love for restoration of the dying one!!!
The process of
restoration involves not only the
individual person, but also the person's divine destiny!!!
We engage ourselves in
this process with the spirit of
meekness(Gal.6:1) lest we also fall into the hands of the enemy(1
Cor.10:12).
We are not doing this
to earn our salvation, but we are
doing
this to demonstrate our salvation which is by grace through
faith(Eph.2:8).
We are not herewith
seeking men's praise for
ourselves(Matt.6:2) but for our heavenly Father(Matt.5:16)!
We are destined to
function as God's
workmanship(Eph.2:10) unto
such good works!
Our supernatural faith
without works is 'dead'(James
3:17)!
The Lord who we follow
as disciples had to work such
works that
he was sent by the Father to do(John 9:4); and as he was sent so has he
sent us(John 20:21)!
This is the
Christlikeness that releases God's
saving and healing power through revival within and beyond our
communities!!!
'This is a faithful saying, and these things I will
that
thou
affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be
careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable
unto men.'
Titus 3:8 (King James Version)
