FAVOURED TO FLAVOUR
Matt.5:13
"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.
There is a people on the earth today who have a corporate divine destiny that has a powerful positive influence on their world.
These people are the people of God.
They become His people by entering into a personal covenant relationship with Him through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ (Eph.2:8).
They are no longer people of the world system (Eph.2:2-3) because they are now citizens of the kingdom of God which is opposed to and far greater than the world system (1 John 4:4, 5:4).
2 Cor.2:14,15,16
But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him.
For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.
To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life. And who is equal to such a task?
Due to this new citizenship, they are expected by the King not to be corrupted by the world system (Rom.12:2).
With the new citizenship comes a new ‘culture’ (2 Cor.5:17).
This new ‘culture’ is saying and living from the heart by faith the word of God which is the law of God’s kingdom.
Prov.18:21
The tongue has the power of life and death,
and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Saying God’s word without faith displeases God (Heb.11:6) and is just vain repetition (Matt.6:7) like a parrot.
Even if a parrot masters the language of an eagle, it can never fly like an eagle!
Saying God’s word alone is never enough because true faith produces godly (God-like) living (James 2:14-26).
Deut.8:3
He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.
Living God’s word without faith is a disregard of God’s grace (1 Cor.15:10) available to all of God’s people (Heb.4:16).
The King Himself lives by His own word thereby showing His own kind of faith.
He has put high premium on His own word (Num.23:19).
Living God’s word by faith is always related with speaking His word by faith (Matt.12:34-37;2 Cor.4:13).
As the example for God’s people, our Lord Jesus Christ influenced the world by this kingdom ‘culture’.
John 12:49,50
For I did not speak of my own accord, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it.
I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say."
Walking in His steps (1 John 2:6), God’s people influence the world by this same ‘culture’ so that God can be known through their speech and lives.
They are not trying to put up an empty act of human religion; they are real speaking and living oracles of God Himself on the earth.
This is their collective destiny for they have been favoured by God to be a flavour for Him on the earth just as salt is favoured above so many other chemicals to be a flavour for men in their food preparation all over the world!
Isaiah 11:9
They will neither harm nor destroy
on all my holy mountain,
for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD
as the waters cover the sea.
