Boiler Details

BOILER - circa 1972

Boiler was a high energy rock/pop band of the early 70s. We started rehearsing in 1971 and after a couple of free gigs in some real dives in Brighton we played our first 'big' gig in a hall next to a pub called the Ladies Mile in 1972. It cost 20p per ticket but being young and keen we let most people in free! In 1973 to 1974 we toured along with Rocky Sharp & the Razors, all the gear and all of us in the back of a transit, foreign students, copious amounts of liquid, etc., (induring image!)

Boiler disbanded in 1976 but got back together twice. Once for a gig for our old manager/roadie Paul Weatherill (brother of
Wince Weatherill ) and recently in 1997 when we got back together to see if we could still do it! (we played about 5 gigs in 97 and 98).

The Lineup:-

Adrian Stevens - Aged 19 and bottom left in this photo - Lead Guitar and Vocals. I played a 1972 Gibson Deluxe Gold Top and had a Marshall 50 head and home made Cab. See the Savaloy Boys to find me there too!

Johnny Edmiston - Top Right in this photo and aged 18. Guitar and unique Lead Vocals, he can really give it some welly! His late dad Jock was the caretaker at the Patcham Fawcett School in Brighton, so we used to get to use the hall on Saturday mornings to rehearse. Johnny had a 1972 blond Fender Telecaster with a HiWatt 100 stack (ouch!)

Nigel Hammond - Bottom Right in this photo, aged 17. Bass and backing vocals. Nigel played a Gibson EB3 bass with a Sound City 120 stack. Definitely a ladies man (so he tells everyone) he is a martyr to clubbing and the stuff that happens afterwards.

Wayne Calcutt - Top Left in the photo, aged 19, we poached Wayne from another band (Cruelty) cos like the rest of us he liked a beer and a curry. He was also wearing a jester's outfit when we saw him at one of their gigs. Wayne played a double Premier kit with Zildjan cymbals.
