Learning
Objectives
Healthcare Interact can adapt their
workshops upon request to suit your training needs, but the workshops described
within this website aim to fulfil the following objectives:
Healthcare Interact utilise exercises that encourage a group to work together closely to
resolve problems, as well as exercises which encourage participants to
communicate with each other in such a way that they may learn new things about
each other, even if they have known each other for many years. The team-building
aspect can be particularly useful if the workshops are provided close to the
start of an ongoing training course, such as vocational training.
It
is imperative to the success of these workshops that the discussions are carried
out in a safe, non-judgemental environment. Participants are encouraged to try
new things, without fear of consequence or reprisal. By dealing with awkward
scenarios in such a setting, the participants will feel more confident in
dealing with similar scenarios when they happen in the real world.
-
Improve
communication skills and body language:
Classic
drama games are used to explore status interactions between healthcare
professional and patient, employer and employee, and trainer and trainee.
Healthcare Interact
also utilise exercises to explore body language, verbal and non-verbal
communication, and physical and emotional barriers to communication.
-
Improve
empathy with patients:
Participants
are encouraged to discuss with their “patients” (the actors) how their
actions and manner in the scenarios made the patient feel, what put the patient
at ease, and what caused them stress, and how the patient felt the encounter
could have been improved.
