Feeding Baby
Breast milk in best.
If you have to use a bottle then try to express milk (A good breast pump is essential).
Expressed milk will last (24 hours? or more?) in the fridge.
Expressed milk can be frozen, get individual portion bags from Boots.
Defrost frozen milk by putting standing it in a pint glass in the fridge overnight.
Warm milk by standing bottle in a mug of boiling water.
Reheating milk is bad idea, but if you have just made a bottle and they don't want it then put it in the fridge.
Never heat a baby-bottle in the microwave, empty it first into a mug or glass.
Always check the teats, there comes a time when they wear out and the ends could fall off. (especially when they have teeth).
Always give milk a good shake before giving to baby to ensure it is evenly heated.
If milk is a bit cold then any bottle can be heated by adding a dash of boiling watrer.
If you must use formula milk then get organic milk.
Formula-milk made from Goats milk is easier for a small baby to digest than cows milk.
I found I wasted less formula milk by making it as I needed it rather than making a batch in the morning. and it was fresher.
Keep a bottle of previously boiled water in the fridge for making formula-milk.
Don't feel pressurised to get baby onto solids, I think the longer you wait the better.
Don't give baby any solids until 4 months at the earliest but 6 months is now recommended.
Powdered-Rice is a good first food.
Make the first foods runny, just thicker milk.
Give baby a break between solids, maybe even day between solid meals to start with.
There was a health food scare about baby-jars.
Make your own baby food and freeze it.
Do not give the baby cows milk for the first year.
Try to avoid sweet foods.
Never put anything sweet in a bottle (including juice).
Juice should be diluted 5 parts water to 1 part juice for baby (first year?).
Now at age 2 we dilute juice half and half.
Never give the baby semi-skimmed ot skimmed, always use full-fat milk.
When the baby is older she will drink so much milk that you may need to ration it.
Baby needs a pint of milk a day at 2 year old.
From 2 years old we dilute milk down with water, we find that one third milk, one third cold water, one third boiling water is the right temperature.
