Billy's Fantasy F1 2004

Race 1 - Foster's Australia Grand Prix

Well Billy never produced a write-up of the race, so I had better find something to say. I watched the repeat of the Grand Prix on the Sunday (I never stayed up all night for it thanks goodness) and to be honest I can't remember much about it. Um, Montoya overtook a few cars including Button. Oh yeah, and Schumacher won. Here's what a couple of the papers said .....

'Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello sent a chill through the formula one field yesterday when they outclassed their Australian Grand Prix rivals, raising the spectre of yet another season of Ferrari domination. It was a crushing demonstration of superiority, but for all but those clad in Ferrari red or adherents of the Schumacher cult, this was a yawn fest. With few real overtaking manoeuvres, precious little dicing for position and the mid-race retirement of local hero Mark Webber's Jaguar with a gearbox problem, this was a race short on incident or much excitement'

'The new two-hour qualifying format had evoked almost universal criticism, to the point where nobody accepts responsibility for introducing it, but the race was even worse as the two Ferraris disappeared into the distance. So was it all down to tyres, or were Michelin's runners indulging in wishful thinking? Time will tell, hopefully soon'

Go to planet-f1.com if you want to read a review of the race.

Oh yeah, Schumacher got Pole Position and Fastest Lap.

At least we've got the Fantasy Formula One to add a bit of excitement to the season. Well, "Barry's Cello" is leading (why that's me !), very closely followed by "Swiss Rollers". "Phil C" and "Robin Reliant Racers" make joint third place.

Down at the Wooden-Spoon end of the table, there are a few teams that are supposed to be there (Oh, is that me again?), and one that shouldn't (Paul!).

But it's early days yet.

People have been querying how the teams are sorted (for example 4 teams all have 37 points). I have added another column to the right, probably for this race only, where you can see the score to 2 decimal places. If 2 people have exactly the same score (eg PHIL C and ROBIN RELIANT RACERS) then they are in alphabetical order by team-name.

Probably for this race only you can click on the team-names to see the owner, drivers, engine, chassis, tyres for that team.

Also notice that we've added a team called "Blank Cheques" which has all £150m banked. This team is therefore an indicator of who is doing well. People above have made money, people below have lost money.

Adam.
