John O'Toole

John O’Toole is the author of many published and broadcast short stories, radio and television plays. He has held the position of BBC Staff Writer and Adapter: formerly Story Editor BBC and held the position of Story Consultant at Granada TV. He has collaborated on four successful novels and is a member of The WRITERS’ NEWS Tutorial Panel.

His work has been translated into several languages and has been broadcast and/or televised by:

Irene Yates B (Phil) ED., Society of Authors, Bureau Associate

Irene Yates

Irene Yates has published well over 150 short stories in magazines and she is a regular contributor to national publications, including Women’s Weekly, Take-a-Break, and Best. She has also written innumerable feature articles for both regional and national newspapers, including The Guardian, Daily Mail, Times Educational Supplement.

Writing credits

  • 120 books for children, published by such houses as: Harper Collins, Pearson Education, Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, Penguin, Heinemann, Scholastic, Brilliant Publications, Letts and, Piccadilly Press
  • Irene has written 12 stage plays, eight of which have won awards for new writing
  • Irene has had much work commissioned by the BBC, including stories, poetry, drama and adaptations

Marjorie Quarton PEN, Bureau Associate

Marjorie Quarton

Marjorie Quarton’s work has been published in Great Britain and Ireland and anthologised in Swedish, Czech and Japanese. Fourteen of her books have been published and she has collaborated on four others.

Writing credits

  • Corporal Jack (published by Collins) - serialised on BBC Radio 4 and optioned by Disney Cable TV (French Translation in preparation)
  • No harp like my own (published by Collins h/b and Fontana p/b) - Film option by CCTV Hollywood and London
  • Reader’s Digest condensed book
  • Renegade (published by André Deutsch)
  • Breakfast the Night Before (published by André Deutsch) - serialised twice by RTE Booktime
  • The Cow Watched the Battle,(Poolbeg Press) is used in primary schools and speech and drama classes
  • Day Trip to Scarborough, twice broadcast by BBC Radio 4
