The Atlantics
**** |
| Somewhere In Australia....
A photograph of The Atlantics in 1963.These 4 unremarkable looking youths created an explosion of primeval tribalistic punk surf music that is now forgotten. The album 'Now Its Stomping Time' and parts of 'The Explosive Sound Of The Atlantics' are decades ahead of their time. The Atlantics were the most experimental surf group and many of their tunes had a dark edge. In Britain or the USA they would be legends
- perhaps in Oz they are.

The Atlantics - Now Its Stomping Time -1963 Fast,thumping,exhilarating.....and forgotten - can this visionary sound really be from 1963?
Hard to believe this was recorded in 1963.Coming from the early 1960s this sounds fresher, more explosive and inventive than anything around now.It sounds astonishing today - in 1963 it must have sounded unworldly-probably the reason this music is less known than it should be.
Now Its Stomping Time is full of pulsating garage punk instrumentals driven along by heavy tribal drumming. The edgy urgency of tunes like Arabian Surf and SOS culminate in the crazed, frenzied tribal marvel that is 'Stompede'.
The Atlantics - The Explosive Sound Of The Atlantics Not as immediate as 'Stomping Time' but in parts just as explosive and yet again it's hard to believe these stunning sounds were made by 4 nondescript youths from nowheresville Australia in the dreary black & white days before anyone had even heard of the Beatles.
