This friendly club was at last able to boast their brand new dome shaped "scandinavian design" club building, though not completed would eventually house a hugh exhibition space capable of hosting a full regulation mat, several meeting rooms, two fully equipped changing and shower facilities and the usual service utilities apart from it's usual outdoor grass field & skating rink. Our club is again honoured to be invited to this engelic south coast town to wrestle.

BERLIN WRESTLING CAMP 2002
6th - 9th June @ The Castle Out Buildings, East Berlin
On invite from the East Berlin Wrestling fraternity, Jek and Steve travelled over to spend the weekend training, learning and fostering relations on behalf of our club. Approximately over 60 wrestlers mainly from Europe (Germany East & West, Spain, France & Britain) and America including Kevin from the Philadelphia circuit attended the camp. Using the fully renovated outbuildings of a medieval castle now a luxurious hotel, boasting a hugh oak driven hall with numerous workshops, various living accommodations and a communal eatery serving the best health conscious food ever tasted washed down with delicious German brew and wine, all at fantastic economical prices compared to London!. Apart from learning German and a few useful training drills and techniques, much co-operation has been generated to benefit both clubs.

1st COMMONWEALTH GAMES (ENGLAND) QUALIFYING COMPETITION
Saturday, 19th January @ The Wrestling Academy, Salford
The club's A squad travelled up and was hosted by PaulB of our Manchester group for this auspicious event. It was unfortunate that on the night prior to the competition during weigh in, the competitors were informed of the revised weight classes. This caused much disorientation amongst competitors who had trained towards the maximal of their individual targetted weight classes. Most competitors had to resort to last minute weight lose activities just to make the weight and the unfortunate ones had to move up which greatly disadvantaged their position.
Results:
Ozkan Dogan (LAW) - Silver (Seniors 60kg)
Abdul Reza Panahi - Bronze (Seniors 84kg)

MANCHESTER SUBMISSION GRAPPLING TOURNAMENT 2000
19/20th February 2000 @ The Mill, Rochester, Manchester, UK
In association with the United Kingdom Amateur Wrestlers (UKAW), LAW send JekP to investigate the possibility of affiliating our club. The organiser DavidG in dialogue with DavidP of the USA produced a draft of rules which proved so successful in this tournament that it is now accepted by both UKAW and LAW as the basis from which submission wrestling in the UK will abide by until further notice.
Two days of grappling included a basic clinic at the offset and an exhibition bout at the end on the second day. Fantastic weekend.

BRITISH SENIORS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2000
June 2000 @ Birmingham Leisure Centre UK
This year's event drew an average turnout with the usual medallists the likes of ThomasC, PaulS, JohnM and FarshadM back to defend their British titles. This year's event raised the roof with increased tension in a bout between wrestlers from the Manchester and Kensington (London) clubs which caused a furore due to a deciding point being awarded for a controversial "control position". This caused the team and supporters from the Kensington club to walk out in protest and missed the medal ceremony. Another incident saw a wrestler being disqualified for allegedly punching the back of his opponent's head!

Kiki(LAW) - 1st (female 82kg uncontested)

FRANKFURT INTERNATIONAL FREESTYLE WRESTLING TOURNAMENT 2000
8th December 2000
26 wrestling participants from Holland, France, Britain and our host Germany joned 524 other sports colleagues from volleyball, badminton and swimming from many other European countries made this year's event both a memorable and inspiring event.

JekF from LAW London represented our club for his first time at this event and was hosted by Michael Kehr in central Frankfurt. Freddy the wrestling host organised the entire weekend meticulously. Registration took place on Friday evening on a riverside boat. Saturday morning was filled with a Tai Bo work out and a brief clinic. After a brief break for light lunch, the tournament began with officials made up from both Germany and Holland. Superb novice wrestling which saw several similar faces with much improved skills and techniques obviously from many hours of training and improved coaching.

Unfortunately, Tilo from Stuttgart received an elbow injury from a double leg takedown and had to be carted off to hospital. It was really nice to hear from Tilo who made a great effort to turn up for the Good bye brunch on Sunday with his arm in a sling, that he will be back possibly in time for the Paris tournament in Easter 2001. This is what makes a wrestling different from any other sporting discipline. Jek did not waste any time to inscribe the first tattoo onto Tilo's plaster cast. Saturday evening dinner was spend at the Sports Restaurant joining force with over 300 swimmers followed by a disco into the small hours.

Sunday brunch was held at the Meridien hotel with a superb banquet style spread of different cuisine to satisfy the different cultures. On behalf of our club and the other participants and spectators, we extend our greatest thanks and appreciation firstly to Freddy and his team of organisers and secondly to the event organisers for their fantastic effort and job well done.

JekF(LAW) - 76kg 1st
