From a game where we had over 20 attempts on goal and which could have easily been a 6 all draw, you would have thought it must have been a classic. The reality was a dour game with several players un-interested. The match was littered with poor passes and even worse defending.

Luton with only two defeats in 11 matches looked relegation material but we still managed to throw caution to the wind and nearly gift them four goals with abysmal defending by Lee Sinnott in particular. Going forward we produced some nice work on the flanks with Thornley,Edwards and Jenkins working well. Three defenders were placed on Thornley for most of his attacks but we failed to capatalise on the extra space this created with poor movement from midfield. Makel failed time and again to make quality passes and to make important tackels at vital times.

It was looking like a 0-0 draw when Edwards controlled a cross from Jepson and brilliantly volleyed in an angled shot past the American goal keeper from 20 yards in the 74th minute. To play badly and still come away with three points is an excellent achievement at this stage of the season. If we can take six points from the next three difficult away games the play offs will be beckoning.

Match Rating (5)

Player Ratings
Francis (9) Made four outstanding saves, one of his best performances for the club.
Jenkins (7) Made a couple of good runs down the flanks and battled well to make up for some poor defending by his teammates.
Cowan (9) As ever he battled for every ball and showed the way for several dis-interested collegues.
Bullock (7) Not back to full fitness after coming back from a groin strain that kept him out of the Derby Game.
Sinnott (3) I thought he could not get any worse but he proved me wrong today. Several farcical mistakes nearly gifted Luton the Game. Lee owes Francis several beers for saving us from his cockups.
Gray (5) An average game but gets a low score for an appaling mistake which was thankfully saved bt Steve.
Edwards (7) A very good debut which was topped off with a superb volley past the lanky American keeper Feuer. Made a couple of exciting runs down the wing and supplied some good crosses. He was quite for periods of the game as he was trying to come to terms with his new collegues. This was his 22nd goal of the season and looks a good solid player with a cracking shot.
Makel (4) P*ss poor, made no attempt to make a decent pass or to tackle his opponents. He seems to be running very hot and cold at the moment. Lets hope this is a one off as he is definately a quality player.
Booth (6) Squandered a couple of good chances and was thwarted by Feuer all the match.
Jepson (7) One of his best performances for a while, worked well with Thornley and Cowan. I still believe he is not up to this standard week in week out.
Thornley (8) It is easy to see why Man U rated him as the best prospect from their F.A youth cup winning side which included the likes of Giggs,Beckham and the Neville brothers. An outstanding performance that forced luton to put three men on him to try and mark him out of the game. The way he beats his markers is worth the admission price alone.
