Joshua,  the hilarious new play by Adrian Preater, is a comic look at mor(t)ality in a dying world, through the eyes of a condemned man... and his duck. What is his crime? He has no idea. All he does know is that his ex-wife was in charge of the prosecution at his trial…and his duck has no sympathy.

"I was on the edge of my seat one moment and laughing out loud the next"....Joshua is suitable for ages 14 to 140  and explores themes as diverse as the environment and parenthood, the seven deadly sins and crucifixion, in a seriously funny way.

Our story begins on Joshua's last day, when all he wants is a bit of peace and quiet, or a reprieve....and he gets anything but! The Executioner would like a word, and his ex wants a few as well. The cleaner sees a window of opportunity and his defence lawyer won't stop crying. And then of course there's Stenson, architect of the new "State", who can't resist a little tête a tête, and who knows, might even pardon Joshua, if the mood grabs him…

Joshua is a funny, thought provoking and highly entertaining play which keeps audiences spellbound until the very end. Featuring original artwork from acclaimed Surrey artist Julian Farrar (www.favouriteroom.com), Joshua is not only hilarious but also a visually intoxicating experience and not to be missed.

Hotbuckle bring their usual classy expertise to this exciting new play written by Hotbuckle co-director and writer Adrian Preater.

"What's your Christmas story?"

(now in it's third year!)

This is an improvised story using ideas given to us by the children. With skills honed in our "Get writing with Rosie" tour, Hotbuckle have perfected the art of building a story with input from the children and then performing it there and then on the spot. This not only gives the children the opportunity to watch their very own unique Christmas story being performed before their very eyes but provides a wealth of imaginative ideas to be harvested later in class.

As above but without the Christmas theme! Ideal for stimulating stories and storytelling. Please see our workshops page for further on this.

"Get Writing With Rosie"

Currently not in production.

The production we want to perform at your school is a portable 3 hander called “Get writing with Rosie”. It is based on the children’s books written and illustrated by Martina Selway entitled “Don’t Forget to Write”, “What Shall I write”, “I hate Roland Roberts” and “Wish you Were Here”, published by Random House Books. The play has been written to help children at Key stage 2 achieve the necessary creative writing goals for their SAT’s.

“Get writing with Rosie” is about two 9 year old children and their journey of discovery as they create and learn about story writing with the help of their teacher. They visualise their ideas and act them out as they go, solving problems and gaining confidence in their own imagination along the way. The stories range from classic fairytale to the weird and wonderful. The piece is funny and physical with fast character changes and challenging questions. It will be an interactive piece where the audience will be asked for ideas and help, which will actually mould the piece itself. Therefore the children in the audience will actually see their own ideas come to life. The actors will use very little set and props, showing the audience that creativity comes from the individual’s imagination not from material items. They will also have minimal costume. All costume, props and set will be of simple construction and be made from bits and things that the children in the audience could also easily create and find themselves. The piece will be performed in school halls in Surrey and its neighbouring Counties and will aim to inspire key stage 2 children to reach their SATs goals and enjoy and gain pleasure from creative writing. Because of the current interest surrounding ‘boy’s’ creative writing development, we hope that the character of Roland, who is a cool, energetic, cheeky chap, will get the boys inspired too.
