4.
The League will be split into a 1st Division and a 2nd Division. The winning team of each Division will be the team scoring the most Victory Points.
5.
In the event of a tie, the tie shall be broken by reference to the results of the matches between the two teams. If in these matches the teams have scored an equal number of IMPs then the team with the greatest net score over the season shall be given precedence.
6.
The number of teams in each of the two Divisions should not vary by more than one. Subject to this constraint and where possible, the bottom two teams of Division I shall be demoted to Division II and the top two teams of Division II promoted to Division I at the commencement of the next season.
7.
Any team failing to arrive within fifteen minutes of the time for the start of the match may forfeit the match. In such an event, the non-offending side will be awarded a victory Point score equal to the average of their VP score in matches over the season. The offending side will receive NO VPs.
8.
All matches commencement at 7.15pm.
9.
In the event of a postponement the responsibility for re-arranging the fixture will fall to the Captain of the side wishing to postpone the match. The Secretary must be informed.
10.
It shall be the responsibility of the winning Captain to inform the Secretary of the result of a match within 48 hours.
11.
A team may consist of up to seven members. No new members may be registered after the 1st February without the sanction of the Officers of the League. No member may be registered who has already played for another team during the current season.
12.
Break up and reforming of a team: if a team splits 3-1 then the three remaining members will be regarded as the original team. If the split is 2-2 then the pair including the Captain will be considered as the original team and entitled to remain in the current Division.
13.
New teams to the league will be placed in an appropriate Division at the discretion of the Committee in the best interest of the League.
14.
Teams shall play at their home club venue. Any deviation from this rule is at the discretion of the committee.
15.
In the event of a team resigning from the League during the season then:

a)
if less than half of the season’s matches have been played, then the scores gained in those matches will be expunged.
b)
if half or more of the season’s matches have been played then those scores remain. For those matches which have not been fulfilled, the would-have-been opponents receive whichever is the better of –
i.
their own average in all the matches they have played over the season or
ii.
the compliment of the withdrawn team’s average score in the matches which they had played before withdrawing.
16.
In a match the home team North/South pair remains the N/S pair throughout the match and the away team N/S pair becomes the E/W pair in the second session.
17.
In the event of a fixture not being played, then provided that the Championship, relegation or promotion are neither directly nor indirectly affected, both teams will be awarded an average of their scores for the season. If the Championship, relegation or promotion are directly or indirectly affected, then the Committee reserve the right to deal with each instance on its merits. If, in the opinion of the committee, one of the teams was solely responsible for the match not being played then Rule 7 will apply, but if there were extenuating circumstances (e.g. a tragic death ) the committee will award Victory points accordingly. If the blame is shared then both teams will be awarded zero Victory Points.
