The Club Championship took place on Sunday 11th September at EKMW with fourteen club members entering - a record entry in recent years. It was a pleasure to welcome two new club members to the event which acted as a precursor for the league season starting this week. A five round Swiss event with each player having half an hour on their clock saw no one achieve a maximum 5 points and the top prize money was shared by Richard Webster and Phil Morgan both on 4/5. However, a five minute per person play off saw Richard crowned as club champion. Shared third place went to Glen Halfpenny and Bob Taylor on 3.5/5 whilst yours truly won  the prize for best late starter when having lost my first two games, I won the last three. ( My first prize ever in this competition - I may think about entering again next year)

 Our two remaining teams in the Team KO competition have narrowly survived the first round proper. Neil Graham’s Ashfield Astra team defeated Newark 5/4 (Glen Halfpenny 1, R.Webster 2, P Morgan 2) whilst Alan Morrey’s Ashfield Allstars defeated Bunkers B by the same margin ( A.Morrey 1, M.Jackson 2, C.Potter 2)
