Note: i typed the longest.. most entertaining.. funniest review ever.. but the msg board closed so lost it all.. but once again here goes anyway. And sorry its taken me a while to get this on.. had graduation awards ceremony at 4pm ysterday - so been rushing around - parents brought me up some good old fashioned home cooked food and mmm the nanima's samosas! Enuff! ---------------------------------- Oh my gosh! What a night! I had a really really really excellent evening. I've not been to any asian nights before.. I've not been in a room with soo many Asians dancing to wicked tunes.. so this was quite a different experience - ok ok i can hear the "u havent lived" blah blah blah.. but man.. i REALLY enjoyed Tuesday night! First of all.. thanks B&N - you two REALLY need to come back soon.. how about next week? Please! The tunes on the night were really cool. Secondly just wanted to post a thanks to Deji and Matty who came along. They've not really heard the show or heard much of Raghav.. and this was the perfect night to get them interested!! So thanks for coming along and tasting the asian style. Anyway.. started the night with a car trip with Matty in his spruced up Nissan Micra - listening to the Raghav Storyteller album. V.good. Quite cool going through the tyne tunnel with 'Angel Eyes' and 'No No' belting out his speakers. (although we heard a bit of Beastie boys too to neutralise things which wasn't too bad) Eventually met up with Deji at Monument metro station and started asking various people for directions - "its in front of you dopey!", (It was an excuse to talk to the Asian gals walking round town.) So anyway.. this old asian guy told us that there was an Eid Night at the Civic centre in Newcastle a few days back... which I MISSED! grrrr. Well I think it's just as well I did miss it, because he mentioned that 38 people were arrested after a fight broke out. Sandeep the promoter on the door was surprised when I told him. Hopefully he'll keep in touch regarding some more nights out in the coming weeks. After that news I was slightly apprehensive about the night ahead - reminds me of the wedding on 'Bend it like Beckham' when there’s the usual brawling and fight scenario when everyone’s drunk at an Asian wedding. We were joking throughout the night that we'd probably stick out a bit.. "There was an Asian guy, a Black guy and a white guy at Legends on Tuesday..." - it's like the start of a politically incorrect joke!! Although predominantly Asian, there were a few other non-Asians enjoying themselves which was great to see and it also shows how B&N/Raghav's music is reaching out across different audiences!!. Even spotted a white guy singing along to some Punjabi tunes. Thought that was great! Anyway, as soon as we got in (just after 10) we heard Hai Hai by the Punjabi Hit Squad. WOW. What a tune. I just wanted to get up and dance straight away. I think B&N came on at midnight.. So before then there was a couple of Bhangra tracks.. bit of Rouge.. some of those tracks that use US hip-hop samples. For example, there was Tigerstyle's Lean Back, there was Destiny’s Child - Lose my breath, there was even Britney and Eminem samples.. I'd earlier told Deji and Matty to expect some of this which posed the question of the day: Alikhan are they allowed to do this? - I aint got a clue - it sounded good though! A bit of smooth non-Asian music came on with My Prerogative and a bit of dance-hall with the remix of 'Move your body' by Nina Sky... that was cool.. and a welcome change from all the bhangra that was on.. HOWEVER soon B&N came on.. and WOW... that was sooo cool... starting off with the House of Pain tune.. JUMP!!! we were jumping like mad.. and Desi Rock.. and Ani Kuriye.. and Kangna, and Don’t be Shy again.. and Raghav's Terri Batom came on just before Raghav actually hit the stage. I've never seen B&N live before but I’d heard the Nottingham show on the radio last month and I thought the music at that show was cool. Now that I have seen them live, I'm thinking of travelling to Monday's Br-ama tour night in Leeds!! The music as Jyoti commented didnt really contain much (if any) DnB tracks.. you're right.. these people aren't ready for it.. give them time!! lol. Although I agree with most of your comments Jyoti, the clubs in Middlesbrough aren't much to shout about so I actually thought Legends wasn't too bad.. lots of seating space.. and although small.. quite intimate.. lots of arms flying about and bumping into people. Actually, I bumped into this pretty short Asian guy - and his glass/bottle dropped to the floor - drink spilling over his shirt and my trousers (looked like I'd wet myself) - and before I could offer to get him another drink.. he asked me politely to buy him a drink. Cheeky! - Well Matty had a quiet word in my ear telling me not to bother as he was probably drunk and should be more careful with his drinking.. and then he checked later after I'd walked to the bar to see if I'd got into a scrap or something. moi?? no! bought a drink of his choice.. Vodka and redbull.. £4.50 - What a rip off – the north east is meant to be CHEAPER than down south!!. Maybe I heard the price wrong! On the plus side, I got chatting with the geezer and he said that there were at least 2 pretty cool Asian nights a week.. Didn't believe him. Infact conversation ended quite quickly when I knocked a glass over at the bar.. It was just water THANK GOD! >Clumsy!< Anyway soon after things got back to normal.. as I had fun trying to teach some 'lightbulb changing' bhangra moves to my mates, and as we were dancing ALL night, it seemed like it couldn’t get better.. THEN RAGHAV CAME ON.. wow.. I've not heard him live before.. even though I went to a few of the Melas this summer.. never actually stayed long enough to see him but good things come to those who wait.. and yeh.. he was excellent. Franky Maxx was cool as well.. not sure if there was a prob with the mics but they seemed to swap a few times.. but they got through ok. LOADS OF GIRLS at the front getting squashed.. ouch! All the guys standing back.. nodding their heads with their drinks.. and theres me in the centre of the dance floor with my hands in the air belting out the tunes as if I was Raghav himself. Think I got a few stares.. but guys you know its jealousy! Lol Anyway.. *comment of the evening:* Deji saying: "Ali.. where do you get your energy from" - I think that was when Desi Rock came on.. and by that time we were all pretty knackered.. actually not sure what track it was but I went mad again. By the way Jyoti.. no I didnt have Ali written on my back. Next time I'll consider it though. (maybe a Boro shirt with ‘smoggy’ on the back) *Weird guy of the evening:* well this asian guy.. actually everyone was asian.. doh! he came up to us while we were dancing.. and started dancing with us.. this was all well and good.. but suddenly he started getting a bit too weird.. first of all.. at one point we couldn't help but laff, but it started becoming a bit irritating - he lost interest when we danced with a few girls. *Craziest dancer of the evening:* well.. other than me!! this guy in a white shirt with his collars up was probably there from the start - dancing on the table, was all over the dance floor.. had an infinite number of moves.. we just sat there and thought - what's he doing? He was still there at the end dancing :D *Unfortunate treatment of friend incident:* Two asian guys stood behind matty.. one spilt his drink on Matty.. it was pretty obvious that it was them especially as they were hiding the drink.. no apology.. Matty questioned them.. the second asian guy was just laughing.. Matty handled it ok cos he's a calm and cool cat.. but that's how fights start over small things.. Other than that he enjoyed himself and left with a relatively good image of how to have a good night Desi style. (To be honest I did too!) *Would've loved it if these songs had come on:* Hunterz - Dil, Mark Morrison - Blackstabbers, DJ Sanj and Sabrina - Can you Feel It, El Feco ft Gunjan - Like it Like that, Uk Apache - Uzi’s Rap But hey I’m not complaining! Maybe next time! :) Maybe these songs came on after 2am.. cos we left at about 2. We were totally knackered at this point.. even though I was still attempting to look cool throwing some dance moves every now and then. With mine and Deji's graduation the next day, we had to eventually call it a day. Next morning.. knackered, On the train home – knackered. Lack of seats at town hall during graduation ceremony.. standing up - knackered.. should've done some Bhangra moves on the stage for the cameras. That would have lit up the afternoon a bit (especially as ceremony lasted 2 hours or something!). My old mate who was at the ceremony said: "Oh B&N are pioneers man.. and Raghav is setting the music scene alight.. it would have been really cool to see them" - I think loads more people would've come if it had been promoted properly especially as Raghav's a pretty big star and B&N have finally shown the North East how to do things properly! :) Anyway I've written quite a bit.. sorry people.. U CAN WAKE UP NOW.. All I actually wanted to say was Thanks to B&N & Raghav for a great night and that me and my mates really enjoyed it :D Alikhan
