Name:
Alastair McIntyre
Born (at an
early age) June 1944
Brief
Background
Full
name: Alastair McIntyre
Left school
at the tender age of 15 years, and started work as an office boy in a local
engineering company G&J Weir,
as it was
then. First wage £2 17s 6 pence. This
was 1959.
Subsequently
served apprenticeship with the aforementioned company as a turner and finished
apprenticeship in the Drawing Office.
Worked in
the Drawing office for approximately 2 years before developing ‘itchy feet’ and
went of to seek fame and fortune in the Merchant Navy, as a Marine Engineer.
Served in
both Clan Line and Blue Star shipping companies for 20 years, in total,
finishing career as Second Engineer.
Was made
redundant in 1984 and ended up working ashore, again.
After a
brief spell working for Henry Valves, in Hillington Glasgow, I ended up working
for my old company (now called Weir
Pumps), again as a draughtsman.
Again, I
was made redundant in June 2005, at the age of 61 years, and decided to take
early retirement, which brings us to the point where I am at present.
