18.1     Days and Weeks

Weekdays are made from the root word 'di' followed by the weekday number.  The compound word formed becomes the weekday name.

18.2     Months

Months are made from the root word 'mon' followed by the month number.  The compound word formed becomes the month name.

18.3     Dates & Times

Dates are given in descending order, starting with the year, month, day, weekday and time.  Year numbers are preceded by the word 'yir'.  Times use the 24 hour clock, in the form :- number of hour, 'ur' (o'clock) number of minutes (i.e. as in French).

·      Monday, 9.10pm, 9th June 1996

(1996, June 9th, Monday 21hrs10)

·      What time is it?  3.15pm.

      (15 hours 15 minutes)

·      When was it?  In 1066.

18.4     Ages

The words 'yir' (year) and 'mon' (month) can be used directly as verbs.

·      How old was he?

k je il ajoz (k il yiroz)

·      My elder sister is twenty five years old

·      The baby boy is seven months old

babil monez sev

 

18.5     Quantities & Measures

The word 'je' means 'quantity of' and can be used as a suffix for any word relating to weights, measures, containers (eg vessels, boxes etc) or items which are 'temporary containers' (eg mouths, hands, tables etc).

·        Two tons of coal, a glass of water

du tonje kul, glisje wøt

·        A bag of those apples,

bagje ce pomi

·        three of those books

trije ce buki

·        A mouthful of cheese,

mofje cis

·        an armful of books
