12/12/08

Grading arrival times for sunday.

04/12/08

Friday's lesson is cancelled!

We were due to use the sports hall but i've just been informed that there was actually a previous booking in there that the admin staff missed when making arangements for us. Back to normal next week though!

03/12/08

As promised the Theory test game is now available!

To try it out select it from the 'Games' menu on the right.

Please bear in mind that this is still in 'development' and will get better looking as time goes on. Also there is not a black tag section yet, i'm working on it!

23/11/08

DEADLINE for the colour belt grading is this friday! If you are intending to grade you'll need to get your name on the list asap!

Also you may notice I have added a 'training fees checker' tool to the website (the link is on the right!), if you're unsure when you're next due to pay your training fees you can now check online, all you need is your student id number from you licence book.

24/10/08

Next week is half term at Hastingsbury so we won't be training there monday 27th and friday 31st as the site will be shut, however from the 3rd november right up to christmas we should have an uninterupted schedule.

Also, the Sparring Drills Seminar is coming up soon - if anyone else wants a ticket (and they won't be available on the door!) they'll need to get one off me by next tuesday at the latest!

18/09/08

Sparring drills seminar

Masters Lutwyche and Read (5th degree) will be holding a sparring drills seminar at Challney (grading venue) on Sunday 2nd November at 2pm.

Open to all grades and age groups, £12 per person, tickets need to be bought in advance via your Instructor (me!)

12/09/08

Grading arrival times for sunday.

06/09/08

Just a reminder - if anyone else wants to compete in the upcoming British Championships you need to get it sorted by the 28th. If you're leaving it til the last minute at least make sure you know which weight division you're in as I don't bring scales to lessons!

02/09/08

From this friday (5th) we will be returning to Hastingsbury for lessons every monday and friday. Timetables for the autumn/winter period are now available at lessons.

10/08/08

I have decided that we will not be returning to Southfields - given the situation in that area (and that the car park is now effectively a refuse tip!) i've decided that it is unsuitable for us to use. I'm looking into getting another southern venue and hopefully it won't be long before we're back in action south of the river.

Keep checking the website for details as I will update as soon as an alternative is booked.

08/08/08

I have now received details for the upcoming 25th anniversary British Championships, details for events (sparring divisions etc . .) are available at lessons. Entries for competitors must be given to me by 28th September at the latest. Tickets for spectators can be bought in advance (through me) or 'on the door'.

The British Championships are always huge, the Nottingham Arena (NG1 1LA for the benefit of SatNav users) is in my opinion about the same size as the Birmingham NIA - and we make full use of it!

This year is the 25th anniversary of the TAGB so there are a few 'special events' planned including a Taekwondo demonstration by some of the grading examiners!

28/07/08

CONGRATULATIONS to Robert and Catello for bringing back gold and silver medals from the Interclub Championships!

Both were fighting in the same weight and grade category and before the event I thought they would probably meet in the first round, but in an ideal draw they were at opposite ends of the table and met in the final instead!!

27/06/08

Grading arrival times for sunday.

Given the way the grading procedure has re-arranged it's likely that these will be the times that theory tests are done for each grade, so try to turn up a bit before your arrival time.

26/06/08

As some of you already know Hastingsbury is closing for the summer and i've been looking for another venue to use in the south.

From Friday 4th July we will be using Southfields community centre (near the Kempston fire station) on a friday and sunday evening at 7pm.

Timetable abbreviations are now:

WC - Week Commencing
MR - Mark Rutherford Upper school
SO - Southfields community centre

Timetables for the summer will be available at classes.
Whether we stay at at Southfields will of course depend on how it works out and how class numbers go.

23/04/08

It's official! Most of you know that I graded for 3rd degree and Nicky graded for 2nd degree last week - today we got our certificates! If you want to see Nicky's certificates you'll have to ask her VERY nicely!

Why do I have two certificates? The first one is my qualification with Tae Kwon Do International (TKDI) which is a world-spanning group of national TKD organisations, the second is my qualification specifically with the TAGB.

04/04/08

For the benefit of SatNav users i've added postcodes to the maps on this site, to save you looking for them they are:

Challney school (grading venue): LU4 9TJ
Bristol Dojang (Black Belt grading venue): BS5 9LA

Mark Rutherford school (training venue): MK41 8PX
Hastingsbury school (training venue): MK42 7EB

02/04/08

Grading arrival times for sunday are now available.

Also, some of you are aware that i've been working towards getting my Referee qualification - i've just been informed that i've passed!

16/03/08

I've finally updated the calendar page - I was waiting for coloured belt grading dates.

Coloured belt gradings this year are

6th April
29th June
14th September
14th December

09/03/08

The video section is now open!

Click the 'Video' button on the right to go there. There's not a huge amount right now, but i'm planning on filming a few myself when I get the opportunity.

Still, the ones there now really are worth seeing!

08/03/08

As you can see from the timetables we are now runnning a class on mondays instead of sundays - new timetables covering the next couple of months are now available at lessons.

Also, i've decided not to put pdf timetables on the website anymore - the two week timetable above is plenty and you can still get timetables at lessons!

30/01/08

Slight adjustments to this weeks schedule (times are unchanged):

Thursday 31st - lessons will be held in the sports hall
Sunday 3rd - lessons will be held in the drama studio

If in doubt, have a look at the TKD board at the venue for directions.

16/01/08

New timetable is available from the student resources section, hard copies will be available at lessons as soon as my printer is behaving itself again!

01/01/08

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL BEDFORD TKD STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES!

Training resumes from friday onwards!

25/12/07

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL BEDFORD TKD STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES!

I hope everyone enjoys whatever time off they have, and don't feel guilty about enjoying yourself - life is for living after all! - just make sure you get your backside back to training in the new year and get that fitness back on track!

18/12/07

Well done to everyone who attended the grading on sunday, those who have been promoted will receive their new belts and certificates from today.

REMEMBER! This week is the last training week of the year - friday is the last training session. Lessons resume from the 4th January.

13/12/07

Grading arrival times for sunday are now available.

19/11/07

I've just been offered use of the sports hall on Tuesday and Thursday, and i've accepted it!

Once i'm on-site i'll open the sports hall external fire doors which are near the tennis courts for students to enter via - you don't want to get accidentally dragged into the drama production!

That means that lessons are now back to normal - available four days per week!

Anyone attending Tuesday/Thursday this week should bear in mind that parking will be a bit scarce so turning up a bit early is a good idea!

16/11/07

I've just been informed today that, due to a drama production, Mark Rutherford Upper has decided to cancel all bookings for next week!

Yes, it's VERY short notice and as a result I will be onsite both evenings to make sure no-one gets dropped off or wastes time wondering round the school!

15/10/07

This is what the British Championships looked like yesterday!

The picture doesn't really do it justice - 18 areas being run simultaneously in an arena of comparable size to the Birmingham NIA!

If you've never been to a TAGB competition before this is the kind of scale they're on!

01/10/07

I've just today been notified by Mark Rutherford that their open evening on the 4th (Thursday) involves use of all school facilities and as a result they are cancelling all bookings on that day.

If possible please attend on another day, or if you can't then let me know.

11/09/07

Grading arrival times for sunday are now available.

02/09/07

Today the club has put out leaflets throughout Bedford and surrounding areas in the Beds on Sunday newspaper. If you don't get a newspaper today, or worse you get a newspaper but no leaflet, please let me know so I can have a 'talk' with the distibutors!

25/08/07

Summer holidays are coming to an end! (Cheers or groans as appropriate!)

As a result the training schedule is returning to normal:

Sunday 2nd september we go back into the sports hall and lesson times return to 6pm for lower grades and 7pm for upper grades.

Friday 7th september we get the gym for an hour starting 7pm, all grades allowed.

If you don't have a timetable covering this period you can get one at any lesson or download a copy from the student resources page.

Also, James (Black Tag) has informed me that he has some TAGB sparring kit he would like to sell - ask him about it if you're interested!

03/08/07

The date and location of the British Championships has been officially changed to (sunday) October 14th at the Nottingham Arena.

Information on this event should be available soon - please let me know if you're interested in competing or spectating.

29/07/07

Video clips from the World Championships are online, if you want to order the official dvd come and have a word with me at your next lesson. Don't worry too much about the price - that's the official RRP - as with all kit i'll sell it to club members for cost + postage!

23/07/07

Finally the latest timetable is available online! Sorry for the delay!

Please note! No friday lessons for the next six weeks!

14/07/07

Congratulations to Sue Glen for winning silver in her division at the Interclub championships!

01/07/07

Great weekend at the Birmingham NIA!
Nicky and I got to see (and umpire) some of the best Taekwondo from around the world!

26/06/07

Remember - no friday or sunday lessons this week because of the world championships!

21/06/07

Grading arrival times for sunday.

11/05/07

I've just been notified of a cancellation - Friday 1st June has been cancelled by Hastingsbury.

New timetables are available from today.

01/05/07

From the 11th may to 29th june Hastingsbury will be using the sports hall for exams, so instead we will be using the gym on a friday and the drama room on a sunday. Times stay as normal. If you are unfamilar with where these are then have a look on the map on our new sign at the time, or just ask me next time you see me.

05/04/07

Grading arrival times for sunday.

24/03/07

I've just been notified that the upcoming grading has been postponed by a week, that means that instead of taking place on the 1st april it will be on the 8th instead. Since that puts it on Easter Sunday, which may be difficult for some people to attend, an additional grading is being organised shortly afterwards for anyone who can't make it on the 8th. The date for this additional grading hasn't been set yet, but i'm told it'll be on a weekday evening no more than two weeks after the 8th.

25/12/06

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I sincerely hope everyone has a good Christmas - remember: there's no need to feel guilty about over-indulging as long as you come back promptly to training and use up all those excess calories!

22/12/06

Grading dates and deadlines for 2007 are now available. They are all scheduled to be held at the usual Luton venue on the following dates:

Deadline for entry                  Date of grading

16/03/07                                01/04/07
08/06/07                                24/06/07
31/08/07                               16/09/07
30/11/07                               16/12/07

Of course it is possible for any of these dates (or the location!) to be changed but it's quite unlikely (in fact it's only happened to us once in the last four years!) and I personally have already arranged my schedule around these dates.

13/12/06

Grading arrival times are here, remember that this once it's at St. Albans and in the morning. For a map and suggested route there right-click here select the 'save as' option and save the file to your desktop. You can then open the file and print at your leisure. Copies are available at lessons.

30/11/06

There have been some small changes to the TAGB events calendar - a couple of courses have had to be moved to accomodate regional competitions. This only affects Black Belts planning to go on Umpires and Referees courses. Check the calendar page of this website or the TAGB website for details.

21/11/06

New timetables covering Christmas and New Year are now available!

Please note that this sunday (26th) has been cancelled.

24/10/06

CONGRATULATIONS to Dan and Kerry for passing their Black Belt grading last Sunday!

Anyone who's attended a TAGB Black Belt grading knows how difficult it is - with six grading examiners watching there's no way to 'get lucky' and have any mistakes pass unnoticed.
It always comes down to hard work and committment throughout a students training. The skills and qualities needed can't be 'given' or 'bought', they have to be built with consistent training and earned with perseverance, and that's what makes a Black Belt promotion a real achievement to be proud of!

Again, well-done to Dan and Kerry - you earned it!

15/10/06

Congratulations to Dan White for winning the Silver at the South East Championships in the Mens senior grade welterweight division!

A great result, Dan successfully went through three rounds fighting only opponents of a higher grade than himself (including one black tag!) before narrowly losing out on the gold in the final.

10/10/06

Training timetable update: Lessons on Sunday the 15th and Sunday the 22nd have been cancelled.

New training timetables will be available at lessons from today and are also now available from the Student Resources page.

18/09/06

Arrival times for the coloured belt grading are now available.

Also, as you may have heard in class there is a local seminar coming up - talk to me ASAP if you are interested as places are limited!

Take-Down's Seminar

by Miles Lutwyche & Terry Read
5th November
2pm to 4pm at Challney Boys School, Stoneygate Road, Luton
Tickets £12
White Dobok's only

Places are limited by the number of mats available at this venue!

14/09/06

Details for next years World Championships are now available - this will be, by definition, the biggest Taekwondo event of the year! (And guess which association is running it!)

Note: Where you see 'Taekwondo International' or 'T.I.' think 'TAGB'.

12/09/06

Lesson timetable sheet for the next couple of months available here , and also via the student resources page.

As usual printed copies are available at all classes.

28/08/06

A new abbreviation is being added to the online timetable which now means the list of initials is:

HU = Hastingsbury Upper
MR = Mark Rutherford Upper
WC = Week Commencing on this date

And, as usual, where there are two lessons on a day it's the first that is open to beginners, not the second!

25/08/06

The list for the May paintball outing is now open, remember - friends and family are welcome, loonies are not!!

08/08/06

As announced today i'm looking into the viability of running a 'competition' hour every week for training and practice specific to competition disciplines - effectively:

Free-sparring (in a competition style setting, including point-stop, continuous and tag-team),
Team patterns (not individuals patterns as we do enough of those in normal lessons!) and
Destruction (for black belt students only)

all conducted in as much of a competition style and environment as possible.

These sessions will be held on either a thursday or friday night after the normal lesson.

Students will not need to pay any extra to attend these sessions but competition lessons will not be counted towards grading qualification (ie: two normal lessons per week to grade at minimum time)

Since running an extra hour incurs an extra cost to the club i'm not going to run this extra class unless there is sufficient support for it. So if you're interested, will be able to attend on a regular basis and are interested in entering competitions come and put your name on the list (it's not a contract and you'll not be bound to attend every lesson and competition!) - if I get enough names the class will likely start from september.

24/07/06

Reminder! This week we start at our new venue, Mark Rutherford Upper school - times for the next two weeks are on the welcome page of this site (MR stands for Mark Rutherford) and tuesday also marks the start of our grade-specific lessons.

17/07/06

Congratulations to all those who passed their grading - another great result for Bedford!

Also, well done to those who came to yesterdays paintball outing, great fun (and lots of cross-country running!) had by all!

03/07/06

Arrival times for the coloured belt grading are now available.

There is now a new training timetable available - copies will be available during classes from tomorrow onwards and are also available right now from the student resources page.

11/06/06

This tuesday (13th) we'll be starting ten minutes early, but still finishing at 8pm. So if anyone needs to leave ten minutes early they can turn up early and still get their hour training (ie: train 6.50pm to 7.50pm and get home in time for the football!).

29/05/06

In the next couple of weeks we'll be advertising for new members, so if you'd like to add an entry to the Testamonial page get the text written (or typed) and give it to me at the next lesson you attend.

28/05/06

Information on the up-coming Interclub championships is now available. If you are interested then you need to fill in an entry form and get it to me on or before the 4th of July as this is when i'll be sending entries.

Yes I do know that the information pack states the deadline as the 8th, but this is the organisers deadline for receiving entries. In theory I could accept entries during lessons on the 6th and send them first class on the morning of the 7th, but i'm not doing that as it relies on the post being 100% next day reliable!

07/05/06

Well done to Nicky who has now completed part one of the Instructors course and is officially qualified as an Assistant Instructor!

05/05/06

Congratulations to all Bedford students who graded last weekend - we got a 100% pass rate and three A grades!!

22/04/06

Arrival times for the coloured belt grading are now available.

16/04/06

Many of you will notice the advertising we're doing in today's 'Bedfordshire on Sunday' newspaper for new recruits - so if you know anyone who you think may like to learn Taekwondo, but would prefer to start as part of a crowd, now is a good time!

14/04/06

Due to our not training tues/thurs i've extended the grading entry deadline to next thursday (20th) to give those who can't attend fri/sun lessons a chance!

06/04/06

I've added a page on 'Grading Procedure' to the student resources section, nothing new to anyone who has already attended a grading but probably of interest to anyone about to go for their first!

02/04/06

I've added a page regarding the new TAGB manual to the student resources page - because it's a very recent addition to the kit range and so doesn't appear in the catalogue I thought i'd put it here til it does.

29/03/06

I've made a slight change to the training fees options available - the 'one year' pre-payment option is now available again, nothing else has changed.

Copies of the amended training fees sheet are now available at lessons or online from the student resources section.
