Reasons for using Interim Management Interim managers are used by top companies to fill in between one permanent incumbent and another because they probably cannot afford to let strategically important ICT departments run themselves for very long. Its the obvious solution, one manager leaves for whatever reason, it will take months to replace them, so use an Interim Manager to bridge the gap. |

Alternatively your IT Manager may be on long term sick leave or wants to take 6 months unpaid leave to explore Borneo or take maternity or paternity leave. You must take steps to replace a manager who is leaving, one option, internal temporary "acting" staff, will leave another problem to fill from where they come. Recruiting can take up to 6 months when you consider the process of advertising, selection and notice period. The obvious solution is to retain a Temporary Manager who has done this before. |

As an Interim IT Manager, I can "hit the ground running" with my experience and my knowledge of the IT business. I came up through the ranks and have been an operator, shift manager, scheduler, programmer, DBA, systems analyst, business analyst, technical support analyst, team leader, project manager, programme manager and IT management consultant and so I know what the staff should be doing and how they should be doing it. I've also had business continuity and disaster recovery experience and so I instinctively know when things are not as they ought to be, for example when backups are not secured off-site as they should or when staff are trying to make themselves indispensable. |
