Calmore’s Youthful outfit made the trip to Verwood optimistic after last weeks
victory. They turned up to see a flat pitch with not much grass on it and
didn’t know what to do if they won the toss. They lost the toss and were put
in to bat which didn’t seem like a problem until they got out there. A positive
start from Galbraith saw a pull shot go for four. However that was the end of
the joy for Calmore as Perry got one that popped up to shoulder height which he
survived then Galbraith got one that stayed very low and bowled him for 5. Dave
Rose came in with pressure on his Shoulders after 89 last week but he was caught
very well at Gully for just 2, Perry then fell for the same score and Calmore
were collapsing. Bradshaw got a low keeping one as well and went without
scoring. Donovan and Bowring gave some hope both getting into the teens but PB
lost his head after getting hit in the ribs and was bowled next ball. Donovan
fell 3 balls after. Croft’s plan was to stay in with the younger players and
let the overs tick over. He was greeted to the crease with a ball that popped
off a length and hit him firmly in the Abdomen. Dempstar added two at the other
end and looked concerned when one whistled past Croft’s helmet at the other
end. Gilmore announced himself to 3rd team cricket with a four over cover but
got out for 6. Croft soon followed for a nervous looking 4. The 2 Kinchington's
added 10 to the score at the end and Calmore’s innings ended on 77.
Calmore went out to bowl having to defend a small total but hopes were lifted as
the opening partnership of Croft and Galbretih took 3 wickets between them.
However as the score board ticked over Calmore’s heads dropped. A rare bowling
appearance from Andy Bradshaw saw him snatch a wicket but wasn’t enough as
Calmore lost in the end by 6 wickets.
Calmore’s Man of the Match: Glen Kinchington – a quick fire 8* gave Calmore
hope and a good catch at point gave them a wicket.
