New Milton IV Vs Calmore III
Back to 3rd Team
7th June 2008
Team: P. Lavelle, T. Perry, A. Bradshaw, J. Perris +, G. Kinchington, M.
Donovan, A. Hargreaves, K. Richard, A. Provins, D. Croft *, S. Dempstar
With Paul absent for a week Vice Captain Dan Croft took the troops to New
Milton. He had added former Captain and Calmore Chairman Pete Lavelle to help
himself and the younger players in the team. Croft won the toss and elected to
bowl. He opened with himself and a returning Provins. Croft took 2 wickets off
his 7 overs with Provins unfortunate not to strike. Croft turned to a mixture of
youth from one end and experience from another. Donovan took 2 wickets at the
same end Hargreaves also took 2. Sam Dempstar’s impressive spell of 2/11 and
Kieran Richard’s spell that saw him also take 2 wickets from the other end
meant that Calmore were chasing 210 to win.
Pete Lavelle opened the batting with Tom Perry who will feel sorry for himself
in the manor he was caught at cover for single figure runs again. Andy Bradshaw
then failed to score and was obviously frustrated in the manor he was bowled.
Nerves may have been creeping in but Lavelle remained calm under pressure, which
can be more than can be said for the rest of the team and Joe went after the
bowling and getting a quick fire 28. Glen was more reserved and hit a very
convincing 14 before being temped by a flighted spinner. Calmore relying on
experience again to see them over the line were delighted as Lavelle and Donovan
edged Calmore closer. Pete Lavelle hit and fantastic situation knock of 56*
setting up the win with Donovan 9* at the other end. Croft’s start as
captaincy started perfectly thanks to a great team performance. Calmore won by 6
wickets.
Man of the Match: Pete Lavelle – his cool and calm head seeing Calmore through
to the end was something Special and a great 50 from “Mr Chairman”
