Welcome to Antonio koi
my interest in fish keeping goes back over 35 years, so I have learned from a lot of mistakes keeping manly tropical freshwater and marine fish and taking them to shows (with some success in breeding some off the harder types of fish)but it wasn't till I got married and had a big garden that I decided to build a pond so in about 1990 I started to dig the hole at the same time my first baby was born so the hole was left because of worries of the baby falling in. my wife said that I could have the pond once the baby was older so the pond was left and the hole used to burn wood on bonfire night. after 10 year and two more children later my wife said if I was not going to do any thing with the hole she would fill it in (by now it was half fill anyway)so that day I started to dig my first pond back out as it had been dug out before the soil was easy to move and I soon had a hole about 16ft long by 8ft wide and 3ft deep because I was going to build a wall around it I figured that it would be deep enough so one week later my pond was fill and in went 4 gold fish the children had won at fairs over the years it soon become obvious that a filter was needed as the water had turned pea green so it was down to the local garden center where I was sold a black box with a uv built in and at the same time I seen some koi it was then I decided that I had to keep koi! So the man in the shop said I should buy a book first. that was when I discovered that a lot of changes had to be made to the pond to keep koi in it!
when you first setup your pond try not to over stock your pond but add only one or two fish a month until you have yore filters matured , I recommend changing 25% of the water every week this will help to keep your nitrate level down and improve the health and growth of your koi in the early months.
also try and feed at the same time each day or ideally small feeds through the day this will get your koi a lot more friendly and more likely to feed from your hand. at the same time putting less load on your filters so improving water quality Keep water clean and do not over feed, quarantine or treat pond when adding new fish, never add anyone else's water to your pond.
Prevention is the best medicine, if a problem arises get professional assistance

Adding koi to Your pond is addictive so pick your fish carefully
koi can grow to 3ft in length and need a pond with at least 4ft depth so start with one fish to each 100 gallons off water and thin them out as that grow
